That's fair, I think it's right to call out the US bias that I am certainly susceptible to.

That said, given that an international tribubal in TheHague ruled in favor of the Philippines over China (though stopping short of declaring sovereignty), it is challenging to see China's actions as benign. Have the Philippines also engaged in escalation? Sure.

But China is unilaterally declaring it's ownership of the South China Sea and becoming increasingly aggressive on defending it.
