More choices might be part of the issue. But also I think with more visible choices, people start performing more as well. So like, I might see people like whichever influencer and might try to ape her so people like me too.
The date I went on recently the man claimed to speak French in his profile. This is a low stakes thing that is easily proven which I accidentally did when I said "désolé, je ne parle pas bien français" and he gave me blank expression. Why lie about something like that? He's walking around studying French on Duolingo for two months and claiming to speak French. I've literally passed a fluency test in Turkish and would NEVER claim I speak it just in case because I'm out of practice.
Idk it was super frustrating because I'm not trying to call anyone out I'm just trying to connect and idk what to connect over except the information they provide. But that's not honest info!
