There is of course the argument to be had that "Something is better than the nothing we currently have", but sometimes that's not true either.
I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable implementing it without revision history, due to the possibility of the old bait and switch tactic.
People could be made to look like they're responding to one thing and then with an edit, be made to look like they responded to another completely different thing.
I'm not sure I want to sponsor a feature that enables that without an edit history to prove otherwise.
