A few months ago a cyclist that I had known since the 60s hit a pothole in the road fell off and died. The existence of the pothole is due to the lack of money available to local authorities to repair the roads. In a very real sense then, the Government were to blame for his death, since they have reduced funding by approximately 40% in recent years.
