Honestly, the notion of "gimp" being an ableist name just feels weird to me because it's the kind of word I've /never/ encountered in person. Not that locals aren't racist or ableist, just that it's a specific English term that doesn't exist even with those English-speakers here.
Before fedi whined about it, I always figured it was just a reference to bondage suits.
