It was as if he was coming to check on my in my sleep. Even though Fred died about 32 years ago it still brings tears to think about him. He was the most conflicted cat I've ever had or known. Definitely not very domestic yet very loving when he wanted to be. Most luxurious long black coat I've ever seen on an animal, I used to threatened to have him stuffed, but of course I didn't. He used to have the most sadistic sense of humor. A neighbors cat was about twice his size but a little slow upstairs. Fred used stock him, then run up and knock him over, then run away.
