This is really important. I taught 8th grade math at a 6-8 middle school. There were two of us among the 18 teacher who taught math who had degrees in math, and how much they'd learned in earlier grades was wrong was frightening. An unholy number of elementary school teachers never liked math and do a poor job teaching it.
