Agreed, as I said: friends/family>religious leader>therapist in that order. However, it also depends on the darkness of the thing you need to hash out. If it's super dark or vulnerable, there might be the need to skip friends and family in order to not overburden those close to you, that being said... if they can't handle you at 100% then it's probably time for better friends 😅 it's very situational though... I just don't tend to deal in absolutes and I think people should carve their own paths. We should all be very careful when advising others what to do in their life. Nuance is the hill I choose to die on.
For example: Sometime you might find yourself in a weird, dark and lonely position (due to a nomadic lifestyle perhaps) then a therapist might be the only option... 🤷🏻♂️ I know an incredibly bright, gifted and productive person who evaded suicide because this option was available. It's non-trivial, so be careful with the advice you give around mental health. By all means encourage something, but do not dissuade something proven to work.
