I've been saying for a few years now that we've never been more than a month or maybe two of lockdown (with strong social and financial support systems) from getting rid of COVID entirely in a given location, and we've known that basically since early 2020. But governments were agonizingly slow to adopt any of the proper public health measures in the face of ignorant reactionary pushback. Even once they were forced into doing something, they only did half of what was needed! When the vaccine hit, they staked everything on the vaccines' success, abandoning all other measures in favor of it. Then they half-assed the vaccine rollout too! What the fuck! I hate this fuckin society, man
