I remember years ago, when I first read #cancelculture I wondered why people would want to cancel culture. I'd read some diatribe about some problematic figure, and think "okay, but why cancel culture." Part of it was my naivety, but it was also a somewhat reasonable assumption. I thought is was another nihilism, like gender or race nihilism.
