My last prototype started out a fun idea that I spent the next 3 years ruining as I chased other trends and games. The game did have some (major) flaws but chasing other games wasn't a solution. I should have focused on what made the first version fun and not worried what anyone else would think. That's hard to do. Maybe that is what separates real genius from the rest of us.
