Call for help from archaeologists, please!
A book about north Wales' upland landscape of the late 1990s uses (only once, in relation to drystone walls and not other structures), the term 'fossilise'. This is supposed to mean later walls built along the exact-same line as much earlier walls.
I'd like to know if this 'fossilise' term is used widely in archaeology and, if so, whether it is still used, or was just one of those 'trendy' terms that came and went.
