As far as I know the major/popular mobile clients all do a good job of displaying long form notes now, and differentiate them from regular text notes. But yea that was more of an issue until just recently.
I recommend checking out Yakihonne. Their mobile app allows you to choose between note and article when you go to compose. I don’t think it lets you switch from one to the other mid-note, however. Here’s a screenshot of the editor.
