Ideally roles like "president" or "supreme court justice" or "mayor" would be more like volunteering to be banker for monopoly, or a role in the church Christmas play. A well-defined role, a service to the community with some prestige and an opportunity to be trusted.
It's not really all that important *who* exactly is doing the job. Someone simply needs to wear the "president hat" and "do the president things."
I'm aware this view isn't exactly typical. 1/
