I've been completing a wide range of do-it-yourself projects in my three years of retirement: Changing fluorescent lights to direct-wire LED fixtures, new exterior floodlights, new thermostat, ceramic tiling, painting, insulation, yard work. I estimate I've saved about $7,000 so far and have about an equal value of projects left to do: More painting, interior doors, electrical outlets, light fixtures. After living for 60+ years, I've gotten pretty good at knowing what I don't have the skills to do and what I am too old to do myself, so I have paid professionals for several things: Roofing, siding, air-conditioning, water heater, exterior doors, and dead tree removal.
