1. The first public test version of Keychat used seed phrases instead of nsec. This was because we believe seed phrases are more suitable for chat applications, as one seed phrase can derive multiple nsecs. It wasn’t our intention to create a closed system. Due to many people wanting to use their existing nsecs, we added nsec login in our new version. However, we still recommend using seed phrases.

2.Regarding the contact list, Keychat's contact list is stored locally on the client side and is not uploaded to the relay. Keychat's contact list and your following on Damus are different things.

3.We think it's reasonable to set Keychat relay as the default relay, just as Damus relay and nos.lol relay are default relays. Plus, users can remove the default relay. We insist on the stamp model because we believe there’s no such thing as a free lunch in the long run, and anything that's free indefinitely is more likely treating the user as the product.

4.Finally, 0xChat and Keychat/Simplex chat are vastly different; they are not the same type. Its default end-to-end encryption lacks forward secrecy and backward secrecy. Its optional secret mode's end-to-end encryption is also significantly inferior to the Signal protocol encryption. In the trade-off between forward/backward secrecy and better multi-device synchronization, it opts for better multi-device synchronization.
The one annoying thing about keychat is their model is that you don't use your public npub for chatting. Because of this, its effectively a closed system. It doesen't leverage your existing contact list, so you need to exchange new npubs to use it to contact any of your existing contacts.
Also, the app defaults to the keychat relay, but there's no good reason for it to do that accept that their relay implements the "I won't accept your messages unless you pay me for each one". This is all great in theory, however it seems silly when there are many free public relays that can be used inatead.
I love the idea of keychat, but its hard to get your friends onto yet another chat app when you have SimpleX and 0xChat
