interesting to see that Coke Zero is not beating Diet Coke in the US.
in Norway, Cola Light (same as Diet Coke) is basically dead. everywhere just sells Coke Zero now.
the English word "light" is used because Norwegians associate that with low-calorie foods, while "diet" is never used for that.
also, "diett" in Norwegian refers specifically to a strict regime of specific foods, so it would be a terrible name for a product. "kosthold" is the word we use for the "food habits" sense of "diet".
why English branding at all? because of American pop culture. think of how Japan and China uses English on branding. while we're much more fluent in the language than they are and bad English wouldn't get a pass here, the language still carries associations to Hollywood movies, pop stars and things young people are into.
