Today marks the 10th anniversary of one of the most important lessons that I learned as a leader.

I had two weeks vacation booked to spend with my family. A week beforehand my boss told me that he would never have authorised two weeks off, despite email evidence to the contrary.

I told him that if he respected my personal time that I'd cancel my second week. I just need a break.
