With something like Twitter or Instagram, posting to your own site first is also a way to claim actual ownership over that "content", or at least that's part of the argument.
Also, worth noting that plenty of IndieWeb folks have federated *their websites*, making them posting from that site no different to any other instance. That aligns most closely with the "goals" of that community: fully controlling and owning what you make 😉
