"Leave the leaves" is not 100% applicable to all situations.
I keep seeing social media posts telling us not to rake up our leaves and to let them rot in place.
I live in the wet, rainy Pacific Northwest. Over the years I have dealt with many fungal diseases that can affect the leaves of plants, trees, and shrubs.
Do not leave these leaves. Fungus can easily survive on fallen leaves. Garden sanitation (i.e. raking up the leaves) is an important tool in disease management.
Remove and destroy leaves afflicted with fungus to help prevent future infections and disease outbreaks.
