Update, the next day: I sent a humble/hopeful email to the IT department of the college I worked for that semester, asking if they can retrieve any of my files from Moodle or other backups. I have heard back! They're going to look into it! I'm delighted!
...I can't thank them, because accessing the help ticket to respond to it requires logging in with my deactivated employee account.
But all the same, there is HOPE!
