New York City smells. The city smells like river water, garbage, the hint expensive perfumes, carbon, hydrant water, bakeries, cigarettes, coffee— but who knows what unlikely combination of these elements performed the feat of time travel on my mind, moments ago I was in another NYC on younger legs hauling my suitcase across town in the first days my adult life ready to live on my own.
