I live in the Jewish quarter in Amsterdam. There are three synagogues, two museums to Jewish memory and 3 memorials and monuments in a radius of 500 meters. And thousands of people with Jewish heritage live here.
No Jewish here have been threatened since we kicked the Nazis out.
The situation is similar with the modern Jewish communities who live in America. Many of them have been living there for 3 or 4 generations, and they are deeply integrated in American society. The Jewish who live in the Netherlands in some cases have been here since the 1600s. There’s no doubt that they belong here.
If violence erupted yesterday, that’s because a bunch of fascist hooligans have chanted in support of genocide, smashed a taxi because the driver was Arab, taken down Palestinian flags from houses and burned them.
It’s not because we hate the Jews. We only hate whoever behaves like an anti-social jerk who threatens public safety and supports genocide, regardless of their ethnicity or political affiliation.
The narrative of the “Jewish being persecuted in the West” is nothing but a Zionist invention to justify the colonization of lands that haven’t been theirs for two millennia.
And the more aggressive they become in kicking people off their lands and houses and butchering them, the more the civilized society has a duty of isolating them and calling them accountable.
