It took a bit for me to adapt since it feels a bit like a souls game but the combat is nowhere near tight enough, it feels like the roll isn't really meant to be used to dodge attacks in the same way. I don't know if Palworld combat *should* be more responsive or not, coming from the perspective of Pokémon you would expect the Pals to do most of the fighting and whatever the player character can do is extra.
