I've said this before, so I won't elaborate much -- the problem is that most of the West has been too rich in the past. So our wealth has almost unimaginable inertial momentum, to the point that we can keep eroding it irresponsibly for many decades with scams like the "welfare state" before the wealth transfer to the State and its cronies and inequality achieve Sub-Saharan levels (and Latin American levels before that). This is our paradox.
