The “Eat zee bugs” thing has always been a bit strange to me. Insects are a major source of protein everywhere the world outside of the US and Europe, where our coddled, plush velour Puritanism allows us to reject much nature’s bounty wholecart (just like they’ve psyoped you into not eating your strawberry tops, for example…).
Paleoman’s diet would have included a shit ton of insects. John the Baptist ate locusts and wild honey. Walk through a street market anywhere in the “global south” and you’ll find fit and health people snacking the fuck out of crispy crickets and spiders on a stick.
So I think there’s a bit a more nuance here. Just as SPAM is not meat (imho at least), Monsanto soy and carcinogen favored cricket powered are not crickets. That said, there’s a way to eat the bugs that is no different than eating shrimp and lobster which for all intents and purposes are just sea bugs.
