I just go ahead and change it to 1080p and suddenly I'm the hero for making the TV "sharper." I also took it out of eye-bleed store mode too.

I say people don't know what they've got, so it's up to knowledgeable family members to fix it for them. But be careful or you'll be tech support forever.
