2023-07-09 — Construction Day 8
All we tried doing today was setup the nameservers and figure out why IPv6 was not working! A domain needs two nameservers, both with a different IPv4 and IPv6 address, we thought IPv6 wouldn’t be the problem as we had millions, but only one IPv4 address. Nick thought about a few ways of doing it, but before he could even start working on one, he noticed that IPv6 magically stopped working, not just incoming IPv6 connections but also outgoing!
Long story short, Nick was doing some frustrating troubleshooting for 3-4 hours and at the end of it realized the issue was outside of his control. It may have been a routing error with our noBGP IP tunnel, so in a last effort of that day we contacted our provider, who responded on a SUNDAY EVENING within TEN MINUTES (thank you so much Sarah) fixing the problem entirely!
Nick measured the following:
https://atlas.ripe.net/measurements/57214770
As you can see the packet times out at an IPv6 address far and wide outside of our control, so sadly there was nothing Nick could do.
We had some good jokes, ate ice cream, and generally had a good time.
This is the traceroute that proved that all was fixed at the end of the day.
traceroute 2a0c:b641:10:800::abcd

After seeing this, we fell onto the couch and watched Gravity Falls until 3 AM lmfao. Good day.
