Of course, that can go the other direction too. When I first heard that Infocom were making "Plundered Hearts", I recall it as being very much billed as a romantic game designed by a woman for other women.
What I got from it was a swashbuckling pirate adventure for everyone. (Well, everyone who still enjoys text adventures, at least.) Great stuff!
