I used to think that "knowing what the problem is" would actually help in resolving it.
But as I process my neurodiversity and the fact that I've spent a lifetime trying to "fix" what is probably not actually broken (just different), I'm realizing that I probably need to find better workarounds rather than "solutions".
I mentioned it last night, but acknowledging my inability to "shut up" is only part of the step. It is extremely uncomfortable for me to hold my tongue...always has been. I found it impossible in school and only barely tolerable when I had a job. Oftentimes the stress of life and work would combine and shockingly I'd get laid off. They never *said* it was because of my behavior (or rarely, at any rate), but...it was never my performance.
The workarounds that "work" are things like avoiding people, locking myself into music so that I'm "less available" and things like that.
I'd prefer to just find a job where that sort of thing isn't a problem entirely.
Now that I'm fixated on this, I'll be trying to acknowledge other "problems" that I've had...this one has just been the most prominent in my life.
What sorts of challenges have you found/addressed/tried to fix?
