Camino Frances | Day 4

Pamplona to Puente La Reina

I woke up to thunder, lightning and plenty of rain on day 4. This on top of the fact that I was still hobbling around. I thought about staying in Pamplona an extra day but I didn't think it would really help my leg that much and I wasn't ready just yet to fall out of step with some of the people that I had met thus far on my journey. So I put my backpack on and started walking around the airbnb trying to apply pressure in different ways as I walked. Nothing I did really seemed to matter, it all hurt. Finally I decided to throw on my poncho and just start, the next village was only 5 km away so even if it took all day I figured I could at least make that and then stay there if I needed to. I got a lot of interesting looks from people as I hobbled out of Pamplona. Thankfully after about an hour and a half of muddling a long in the rain my achilles loosened up (I guess). It went from pain and only being able to take small steps to less pain and being able to walk normal..er. Once I was able to walk at a reasonable speed again I started pounding ground in a hurry to get to my final stop and get out of the rain. I passed people who were carefully trying to avoid mud puddles and I just went straight through them. You can't get more wet than wet and honestly the water on my feet and legs felt good. When recounting the events of the day with others they kept bringing up how cold and windy it had been, and as someone that usually gets cold pretty easy, I didn't remember that at all. I think I was just so glad to be able to keep going that nothing else mattered at that point.
