Once upon a time, I worked in the supercomputer room at EDS. These were massive, room sized machines with ladders and walkways. (I was the only woman in the supercomputer division, iirc.)
One day, I got a letter from HR telling me that jeans and combat boots did not fit the dress code for women, and I needed to be wearing skirts, pantyhose and heels. To which I said, fuck the fuck right off.
I tell you that story so I can tell you this one. World chess champion #MagnusCarlsen was told to change out of jeans or be disqualified, and he basically told them the same thing I told EDS. There is no reason for #chess to have a dress code. Some of the best chess I’ve ever seen played was by bedraggled old rag pickers. Chess could be played completely butt-ass nudies, and it wouldn’t make a pawn’s space worth of difference. What an absurd rule. I absolutely support Magnus in this “fuck you” to the fuddyduddies.
