If you see liberals spreading the fear that Trump is trying to trigger huge protests as a pretext to clamp down on protests, you should probably remember that Trump is going to clamp down on protests whether there are huge protests or not, so the only motivation anyone could possibly have in fearmongering like that is to prevent protests. You'll have to work out for yourself why a person might conceivably want to prevent protests against a fascist regime, but it's probably not out of concern for the protesters.
