Conservatives hate public good, if the government does something that helps the public cheaply or freely, they will try their hardest to privatize it. That's who they are, and what they work for. The most insane trick they ever managed was convincing way too large a group of people that they somehow don't deserve anything beneficial from the taxes they pay.
