I wonder if much of the reason for workloads moving to postgresql is that between Oracle's mysql, mariadb, and MongoDB, postgres has enjoyed far less drama in its development community, and the tradeoffs for things like upgrades and scalability might be more acceptable because the longterm technical debt concerns are more predictable.
