Most every performance athlete will find that carrying a little extra helps. Fighters create an illusion being that skinny helps because being forced into weight classes sticks it's finger on the scale, pun intended. Look at heavyweight in UFC with a 60lb range for the weight class. The 6 packs basically disappear in that class because the fighters simply fight at an ideal weight for them instead of cutting.
