"In a modern context, diversity only means non-white. It has nothing to do with personality, intellect, or any other facet of who a person is. I deliberately use variety when talking about those things and diversity to mean non-white to clearly make this distinction in my own writing."
Having a variety of characters sounds like a good word to use. Diversity has sort of been poisoned so I'm not sure what to make of it now. Would be great to speak with other writers about it.
