To be fair there is a lot of bike theft where I live too but if you secure it well it's OK. Part of the idea of it being cheap also comes from that, although I did invest a ridiculous amount of hours in learning about bikes and bike parts and assembling it.
Also while I think my bike is the best and looks damn good it's not exactly "desirable" for thieves compared to the more modern, store-bought ones.
The thing I'll change soon is that the seat post is currently secured with a quick release lever I got for free. I secure it with a cable lock for now but I'll bolt it securely when I get a bit of time as it makes no sense to keep that.
I am also lucky that I have the place to keep it in my home and I can also park it inside where I work.
