I was keto before it got cool. I researched it for my diabetes in late 2015. Then, when I could no longer afford my medication ($1400/mo at the time) I started the following spring. It helped my A1c go from 11% to 7%, and my high blood pressure went down to pretty much normal almost immediately. I also lost quite a few pounds and was sleeping better.
Even though I lost weight, my BG numbers were still high, so I went carnivore in 2019, getting my A1c down to 5.8, then 5.6
I am now still meat-based but ketovore, and it works best for me. I eat real food, no keto products, and only occasionally use low carb and keto baking ingredients such as almond flour or monkfruit on occasion in recipes I created that I share here and on my website. Most of them are things I eat regularly, and a few that I've made for friends and family (who aren't keto) and they liked them and I tried all myself, so I know they're tasty and great for staying on-plan.
You can find the recipes I've shared here on nostr all in one place for easy reference (and zapping, if you're into that) here: https://ketobeejay.npub.pro/
And my website has more recipes (and my jerky) at https://ketolish.us/
