I run save-me to create snapshots probably a little bit more often than I need to. And those are what go into my crude "time-machine."
As tax documents become available this month I will download them, and save them.
The save-me uses ccrypt which I still think is judged pretty strong. For tax docs I might "shred" the originals.
A "restore" script makes that easy.
