Also carddav is overrated, I used to use it. Nowadays it's synching + vcf file stored on disk, way way simpler. I long ago abandoned all the self hosting this and that for "plug in a drive and copy stuff over once in a while" because the complexity overhead of trying to network everything just isn't worth the trade off for most people.
