From my perspective as a former research scientist, it occurs to me that the gov't has its priorities on Science & Society almost entirely wrong. Truly novel ideas come from educated & motivated individuals & teams. They're seldom motivated by profit themselves. They benefit from a stable environment in which they can focus on their scientific interests & explore permutations of ideas.
Businesses seldom innovate. They mostly exploit real innovation. 1/n
