attribute this to the fact that the "Alberta advantage" has been trumpeted for years as a career in the oil and gas industry, one of the few industries left in North America that does not require university education. these people see the contempt and destruction of this industry as a direct threat to their way of life, and they're correct: there is no other work in the world that will pay you a six-figure salary without a degree unless you're a unicorn.
