I have learned about what sounds to be one of the rarest—and riskiest—mushrooms to forge around: amanita velosa. Cousins to the death cap and destroying angel both of which kill; this one is apparently on of the tastiest mushrooms around. Much caution with identifying it, but apparently once you have it ID down it’s like most other mushrooms. And it grows in the forest all around me. And right now is it’s prime fruiting.
While I won’t be eating any this season, I am happy to have a new and challenging mushroom to hunt, particularly in springtime.
