I don't make a habit of praising Joss Whedon, but he had some writing advice that has helped me.

Regarding writer's block, Whedon suggested that you don't have to write the whole piece in order. If you feel stuck on one part, you can skip ahead to a later part that you feel you could get down on paper.

This advice helped me finish a short story over the weekend that I had put aside back in the spring.
