OK 3d printing experts, here's a question I can't figure out.

I want to be able to look at a video feed of my 3d printer so I don't have to keep walking up and down the stairs to check on my prints. I can see Octoprint is a project, but I can't tell if it replaces my current firmware or just lives next to it.

I'm really not interested in a project that replaces my printer firmware, I just want a video feed and maybe ambient temp readings.
