I wonder what this kind of place is called in English. "Paradores" in Spain is kind of like English Heritage places.
Most of them are renovated ANCIENT palaces which is why they are so pricey, the cost is to keep the place maintained, up and running entirely, not for profit.
Many castles get maintained following this model.
They ARE hotels. A parador is a hotel. But is the way they are run what differs, the fact the STATE owns them and the history and beauty of the place what differs.
