If X/Twitter had enough engineers left they might make sure their website widget used lazy loading (only load images that are actually visible). For instance, on Hackney Council's website the Twitter widget loads over 200 images (over 7MB) even though the vast majority will never be seen as it is at the bottom of the page and the majority of the timeline is hidden within a scroll. It'd save X/Twitter some bandwidth costs too.
