To add insult to injury, the defendant must pay his lawyers and is not reimbursed by the state/prosecution even if he is found not guilty. Even if he wins, he loses at least money. And not sure how he is in pre-trial detention for more than 2 years. (But didn't listen the whole episode yet.)
And I know those are the lawyers speaking - the people paid to say good things about the defendant. But this happens in a jurisdiction where civil asset forfeiture is a thing, and where cases like Sklyarov, von NotHaus and Snowden took place (just some cases off the top of my head), so some doubt about prosecution's case is warranted.
