Stuff like the Portal64 thing are a reminder as to why people (myself included) work very hard building things that no central being has any authority over, using permissive licenses.
That's why a lot of us build free software game clones and things, so they cannot be taken away.
I'd like to remind you that it's not just games, but also applications that you need to think too.
